Common Dental Procedures

If you've been to the dentist, then you're probably familiar with some of the basic procedures that they perform. You have probably experienced a cleaning and even a filling or two. However, dentists like Kyle J Frisinger DMD offer quite a few other services to treat a variety of dental conditions. Here is a list of some of the most common procedures and how they can help you:

Cleanings: whenever you go to the dentist for a checkup, you will probably get a cleaning. This procedure consists of an extremely thorough cleaning meaning to eliminate all of the foreign matter in your mouth. However, you shouldn't rely on your dentist to clean your teeth. It is imperative that you clean your teeth daily in order to prevent painful and expensive tooth problems down the line.

Fillings: if you have a small cavity in a tooth, then your dentist will create a filling for you. Cavities are deteriorated or missing segments of your teeth caused by tooth decay. A filling is usually made if metal and "fills in" the missing part of your tooth so that you will be more comfortable and the sensitive tissue inside your teeth will be better protected.

Crowns: when a cavity is too large for a filling, you will need a crown. Additionally, missing teeth are usually replaced by a combination of an implant and a crown unless you want to get dentures. Crowns can be made of metal or a more natural-looking material such as ceramic.

Implants: if you have a tooth that is damaged beyond repair or entirely missing, then you might want an implant. Implants are extremely permanent and much more expensive than dentures, but they also offer greater comfort and do not need to be taken out every night. Implants consist of a small device that is drilled into your jawbone. This device is then used to anchor a crown, which will act as a replacement tooth.

Dentures: if you are missing teeth, then your other option is dentures, which are quite a bit cheaper than implants. However, dentures must usually be removed on a nightly basis. They are also quite a bit less comfortable than implants. If you are financially unable to get implants, then you can get dentures while you save up the money to afford implants.

Root Canals: if you have compromised nervous tissue in the root of your tooth, then you need a root canal. The pain from nerve damage is incredible, so you will want to get the surgery done as soon as possible to alleviate the pain. After a root canal, a large portion of the tooth and root will be removed, which will ultimately mean that you need a crown to replace the missing tooth.
