Improving Your Smile With Dental Bonding

Few things are as charming as a perfect smile, but not everyone is naturally blessed with one. Fortunately, there are dental techniques for improving smiles, and dental bonding is one of those treatments. Here are the specific improvements you can enjoy with dental bonding:

Repairing Cracks and Chips

There are many ways in which one can crack or chip their teeth; for example, you can crack or chip your teeth in a bicycle accident, or perhaps you tried to open a beer bottle with your teeth (something you should never do). Whatever the cause of your chipped or cracked teeth, you can fix the damage by covering them up with dental bonding. In fact, you should do this sooner rather than later because the chipped teeth are vulnerable to further accidental damage or bacterial attack.

Closing Gaps Between Teeth

Most people don't like large gaps between their teeth because it interferes with the beauty of their smiles. However, aesthetics aren't the only reason you should close up such gaps; they also increase your risk of tooth decay, interfere with the clarity of your speech, and may even cause your teeth to wear down faster.  Luckily, dental bonding may help you get rid of the gaps by building up the bulk of the teeth adjacent to each gap.

Changing the Length of Teeth

You should also consider dental bonding if some of your teeth are shorter than others. Apart from interfering with the beauty of your smile, having such an arrangement may also create bite problems, jaw pain, and speech problems, among other complications. In this case, the bonding material is used to build up the shorter teeth so that they can be of the same size as the rest of the teeth.

Covering Up Discolorations

There are many methods of brightening teeth; the most popular one is dental bleaching. However, dental bonding is a good alternative, especially if you also have another problem that bonding can help with and you want to kill two birds with one stone. In this case, the dentist will use a bonding material that matches the rest of your (discolored) teeth to cover up the stains.

Covering Up Exposed Teeth Roots

Lastly, dental bonding can also be used to cover up exposed teeth roots. Living with exposed roots brings many complications; for example, they make your teeth hypersensitive to cold, heat, and air. Exposed roots are also more susceptible to bacterial attack because they don't have the protective enamel.
