5 Ways To Use Your Toothpaste Other Than Cleaning Your Teeth

Toothpaste is extremely effective in cleaning your teeth, protecting against tartar buildup, shielding against cavities and even safeguarding from yellowing. However, that toothpaste can do a lot more than simply clean your teeth. Here are five other uses for your oral hygiene product:

1. Remove Soap Scum from Sinks and Shower Doors.

Due to the fine abrasiveness of the toothpaste, it can work similar to that of a chemical cleaner when trying to lift dirt, grime and soap scum from sinks and shower doors. In some cases, toothpaste can work to get stubborn soap scum off that your general cleaner can't remove. Just make sure that you are using a standard, white toothpaste instead of a gel toothpaste. A toothpaste with whitening ingredients, such as hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, will work best.

2. Remove Your Child's Crayon Artwork from the Walls.

Most adults have had a young artist in their home at some point in time. Unfortunately, instead of using a canvas for their artwork, they used the walls inside the home. Crayon can be a pain to get off of painted walls, but toothpaste makes the job easy. Make sure to use white toothpaste so that the pigments of a colored toothpaste do not enter into the paint on the wall. If the area affected is of significant size, test an area and wait about 24 hours before using the toothpaste on the entire wall to see if it is going to negatively impact your paint.

3. Beautify Your Nails.

Whether your nails are dirty from everyday tasks or your nails are stained from your favorite dark nail polish, toothpaste can help clean your nails and make them sparkle again. All you'll need is a toothpaste with whitening properties and an old toothbrush to scrub your nails with.

4. Fill Nail Holes.

If you are rearranging photographs and artwork on the wall or are repainting a wall, then you are going to find nail holes. Holes in the walls, no matter how small, are the last thing that you want your guests to see. When you don't have any putty or spackle, you can turn to your oral hygiene friend to fill in the holes. This is typically only recommended on white walls because the toothpaste may not allow the paint to adhere properly.

5. Defog Your Glasses and Swimming Goggles.

Since eyeglasses tend to fog up in humid climates, you may want to consider what you can do to keep your glasses fog-free. One of the best do-it-yourself methods is using toothpaste. Squeeze a dab onto the lens and rub with a soft cloth. The same can be done on swimming goggles to keep them fog-free underwater.

Obviously, the best use of your toothpaste is for your oral health. However it doesn't hurt to put it to use in other aspects of your life when you catch yourself in a pickle. Just don't forget to use your toothpaste twice daily on your teeth and visit a dentist like Family First Dentistry LLC for your twice-yearly check-ups.
